Silicon iron is based on silica, steel, coke as raw materials, after 1500-1800 degrees of high temperature reduction of silicon melt in the iron liquid, the formation of silicon ferroalloy. It is an important alloy variety in the smelting industry.

Uses of silicon iron:

(1) Used as an oxygen atner and alloy agent in the steelmaking industry. Especially suitable for continuous cast steel water deoxygenation requirements, the practice has proved that silicon iron not only meets the requirements of deoxygenation of steelmaking, but also has the properties of desulfurization and has the advantages of significant, strong penetration and so on. 　

(2) Used as a incubator and globulizer in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry, it is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, with excellent casting performance and much better resistance than steel. In particular, ball-ink cast iron, its mechanical properties to achieve or close to the mechanical properties of steel. Adding a certain amount of silicon iron to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbonicide in iron, promote graphite precipitation and globulification, so in the production of spherical cast iron, silicon eiiron is an important incubator (to help analyze graphite) and globulin.

(3) Used as a reducing agent in the production of ferroalloys. Not only is the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen very large, but also high silicon iron has a low carbon content. Therefore, high silicon iron (or silicon alloy) is a kind of reducing agent which is commonly used in the production of low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.

(4) 75 silicon iron in magnesium smelting is often used in the high-temperature smelting process of magnesium metal, the magnesium in CaO.MgO will be replaced out, each ton of metal magnesium production will consume about 1.2 tons of silicon iron, the production of metal magnesium plays a great role.
