(2S, 3S)-HCA from Garcinia is  potent inhibitor of ATP citrate lyase, which catalyzes the extra mitochondrial cleavage of citrate to oxaloacetate and acetyl-CoA. Thereby it effects fat formation and reduces obesity<br />

Meta-Analysis of Randomised Clinical Trials to examine the efficacy of Garcinia extract, hydroxycitric acid (HCA) as a weight reduction agent was performed. The meta-analysis revealed significant difference in weight loss favoring HCA over placebo (MD: −0.88 kg; 95% CI: −1.75, −0.00). Garcinia extracts/HCA can cause short-term weight loss.<br />

Clinical study involving 39 participants to study effects of garcinia cambogia (Hydroxycitric Acid) on visceral fat accumulation was performed. At 16 weeks, the G cambogia group had significantly reduced visceral, subcutaneous, and total fat areas compared with the placebo. There were no signs of a rebound effect from week 12 to week 16.<br />
