Since all the materials of this cable are inorganic materials, it has some advantages that other cables cannot have.
1. Fire-resistant
The two materials used in mineral insulated cables, copper and mineral insulation, are inorganic. The cable does not burn or support combustion, and can continue to operate in close proximity to flames. The copper sheath melts at 1083°C.
2. High operating temperature
Mineral insulated cables can withstand continuous operating temperatures up to 250°C. And, in the event of an emergency, the cable can continue to operate for a short time at a temperature close to the melting point of the copper sheath.
3. Long life
The inorganic materials used in mineral insulated cables guarantee the stability, long life and fire resistance of the cable.
4. Explosion-proof
Highly compacted insulation in mineral insulated cables that prevents steam, gases, and flames from passing between the parts of the equipment connected to the cable.
5. Small outer diameter
Mineral insulated cables have a smaller diameter than other cables with the same current rating.
6. Waterproof
If the mineral insulated cable is completely immersed in water, the mineral insulated cable can continue to operate with the help of its seamless metal sheath.
7. High mechanical strength
Mineral insulated cables are robust and can withstand severe mechanical damage without compromising their electrical properties.
8. Large current carrying capacity
For cables of the same cross-section, mineral-insulated cables transmit higher currents than other types of cables. At the same time, mineral-insulated cables can withstand considerable overloads.
9. Short-circuit fault rating
At the same temperature, mineral insulated cables have significantly higher short-circuit fault ratings than other types of cables.
10. Grounding
For mineral insulated cables, a separate grounding conductor is not required, as the copper sheath used in this cable already acts as a grounding conductor and provides a good low grounding resistance. In the case of Ground Skin Circuit (ESR) routing, in a MEN (Multi-Ground Neutral) system, the outer copper sheath can be used as a ground and neutral conductor.
11. High corrosion resistance
The copper sheath of the mineral-insulated cable is highly corrosion-resistant, and for most installations, it does not require additional protective measures. Where the copper sheath of the cable is susceptible to chemical corrosion or severe industrial contamination, a plastic outer sheath should be used to protect the mineral insulated cable.
