Sérgio's relationship with coffee began with the union of two families. His father, an Italian immigrant, married a Portuguese daughter and together they started growing coffee on a plot of land she inherited.
At the age of 12, Sérgio was already farming, an experience that helped him continue his work when, at the age of 20, he lost his father prematurely.
When there was still no talk of quality in the region, he already realized that there was no shortage of aptitude and, in 2001, he founded the Minas Specialty Coffee Association together with producers.
“My dream is that every coffee that comes out of the Matas de Minas will have its identity preserved and that the consumer will know that when they hold a cup from Fazenda Cotrim e D'Alessandro they can feel how many hands that drink has passed through.”
