Buckwheat came with the opportunity to be used as fodder, grain, hay and silage, but is more widely used as green manure and cover crop. It excels in weed control, biomass production and development in poor soil.

In the Midwest, it is used in the succession of crops such as corn, sorghum and soybeans. And it can be sown in consortium with corn safrinha or with crotalaria. In the South, it is used after the summer harvest and before the winter harvest.
