Alfalfa hay is a legume with a rich color, soft texture, and high protein, calcium, and energy content. High-quality alfalfa hay has the following characteristics:
Color: Dark green
Texture: Soft
Leafy: Extra leafy
Stems: Fine to medium
Free of damage: Other than slight discoloration
Free of mold, dust, and weeds: Premium hay
Fresh smell: Bright green hay
Some hay may be lighter in color due to bleaching, but is still good quality.
Alfalfa hay is a good choice for young, growing animals and lactating or pregnant animals that require extra nutrients
