Soybean meal is the product remaining after extracting most of the oil from whole soybeans. The oil may be removed by solvent extraction or by an expeller process in which the beans are heated and squeezed. The nutrient composition of the oil extracted soybean meal 48 is shown in the table below.

Soybean meal is high in protein and energy and is one of the most commonly used protein supplements in North America. It is a palatable feedstuff and may be used as the major protein supplement in rations for dairy cattle.
Soybean originates from Eastern Asia. It has been an important
economic resource for at least 5000 years. Its seeds are naturally rich
in protein and oil and it is used massively in animal feed in the form
of soybean meal.



The main producers of soya are the United States with 35% of world
production, followed by Brazil with 27% and Argentina with 19%.

Soya grains undergo a transformation process called trituration
resulting in a co-product called meal. This meal is highly concentrated
in nutriments, in particular in protein. This characteristic makes this
oily meal one of the principal protein ingredients in animal feed (pigs,
poultry…) around the world.

We mainly exports two high demand varieties, from Brazil
to Western Africa: soybean meal with gross protein contents of 46% or
48%.

Soybean meal can be sold in the form of pellets or flour, depending
on the manufacturing process of the trituration factory. The quality of
the soybean meal is generally expressed in “Profat” corresponding to the
gross protein level combined with the proportion of fat.

Soybean meal 46% is one ingredient in animal feed, rich in protein, thiamine, choline and niacin.

It is used for all animal species, the varying rates of inclusion in
diets depend on the general requirements of each species, diet and
production levels.

With a higher level of protein than the 46% soybean meal, it also contains thiamine, choline and niacin.
