Abamectin Synonyms: Avermectin; Avermectin B1; Invermectin; Abamectin; Methanol Solution of Abamectin; Abamectin Specialty; Avermectin; Emamectin benzoate Characteristics and Effects: Abamectin has both stomach and contact toxicity against mites and insects, but it cannot kill eggs. Unlike typical insecticides, its mode of action disrupts neurophysiological activity by stimulating the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which inhibits nerve conduction in arthropods. After contact with abamectin, adult mites, nymphs, and insect larvae exhibit paralysis symptoms, cease activity and feeding, and die within 2 to 4 days. Because it does not cause rapid dehydration in insects, abamectin's lethal action is relatively slow. Although abamectin has direct contact toxicity on predatory insects and parasitic natural enemies, the minimal residue on plant surfaces means it causes little harm to beneficial insects. Abamectin is absorbed by soil and does not move, and it is degraded by microorganisms, thus not accumulating in the environment, making it suitable for integrated pest management. It is easy to formulate; simply mix the preparation with water and it is safe for crops when used as directed, with no phytotoxicity. Suitable crops include vegetables, citrus, cotton, etc. Target pests include resistant pests like diamondback moth, leafminers, spider mites, etc. Application techniques: Abamectin has strong stomach and contact toxicity against mites and insects. It penetrates strongly, with the liquid quickly infiltrating leaf tissues to form numerous micro-reservoirs. Adult mites, nymphs, and insect larvae exhibit paralysis symptoms immediately upon contact or ingestion, ceasing activity and feeding, and dying within 2 to 4 days. Very little abamectin residue remains on leaf surfaces, which decomposes into non-toxic substances quickly, minimizing harm to natural enemies. Abamectin does not kill eggs. To control spider mites and rust mites, use a 1.8% abamectin solution diluted 3000–5000 times, or add 20–33 ml of 1.8% abamectin per 100 liters of water (effective concentration 3.6–6 mg/L). To control diamondback moth and other Lepidopteran larvae, use a 1.8% abamectin solution diluted 2000–3000 times, or add 33–50 ml of 1.8% abamectin per 100 liters of water (effective concentration 6–9 mg/L) for spraying. Application is most effective when larvae first hatch; adding one-tenth of vegetable oil can enhance efficacy.
