ELEKEIROZ is a Brazilian company present in the Chemical area for more than a century.
The company was founded as Queiroz Moura & Cia. in 1894 as a manipulation laboratory of vegetal extracts-based products; one of its participants was the pharmacist Luiz Pinto de Queiroz. Such company became, in 1909, a statutory partnership association - L. Queiroz- and built in Sao Paulo the very first Sulphuric Acid plant in Latin America. The current name Elekeiroz S.A. was originated from Sociedade Anônima Produtos Químicos L. Queiroz Corporation, previous company situation since 1912.
Elekeiroz S. A. opened its capital to public subscription in 1969 and in 1986 its shareholder control was undertaken by Itaúsa - Investimentos Itaú S.A. - a holding company that stands as number 372 in the world ranking according to Fortune Magazine classification of the 500 biggest companies.
Elekeiroz has been a pioneer- not only in Brazil but also in Latin America - in the manufacture of several chemicals as Phthalic Anhydride, Carbon Disulphide, Trimethylol Propane, 2-Ethyl Hexanoic Acid as well as 2-Ethyl Hexyl Alcohol and n-Butanol, using a technology based on Ethyl Alcohol derived from sugar cane.
