Description
Banana, originally from Southeast Asia, is a tropical fruit with soft and sweet flesh. In Brazil, the most popular varieties are nanica, prata, plantain and banana maçã. When ripe, their skins are yellow or red. Each banana tree produces 5 to 15 bunches at once. Used in the cuisine of several countries, bananas can be consumed raw, fried, boiled or roasted.
A ripe, large banana (such as the dwarf) weighs about 120 grams. Rich in fiber, potassium, vitamins C and A, bananas are a seedless fruit, composed of approximately 70% water. The dwarf banana, the most consumed in Brazil, is widely used in cakes, sweets and other recipes of Brazilian cuisine.
