Appearance and properties: white powder or hexagonal crystals. Odorless, tasteless, sand-free. It turns yellow when heated, and then turns white again when cooled, and sublimates when heated to 1800°C. The hiding power is half that of titanium dioxide and zinc sulfide. The tinting strength is 2 times that of basic lead carbonate. [4]

Solubility: soluble in acid, concentrated hydroxide alkali, ammonia and ammonium salt solution, insoluble in water, ethanol.
Chemical properties
Zinc oxide is a well-known white pigment, commonly known as zinc white. It has the advantage that it does not turn black when encountering H2S gas, because ZnS is also white. When heated, ZnO gradually changes from white and light yellow to lemon yellow, and when it cools, the yellow color will fade, and this characteristic is used to mix it into paint or add it to a thermometer to make a color-changing paint or color-changing thermometer. Because ZnO has astringent and certain bactericidal ability, it is often used as an ointment in medicine, and ZnO can also be used as a catalyst. [5]
